The topic of The Holy Spirit has been a HOT one for me to say the least! I have been walking in alot of its power for over a year now. This past yer has been full of growth. There have been many highs and many lows. I have learned much in the way of discernment, wisdom, humility, and grace; just to name a few. One of the biggest factors in all this has been my constant striving to live in total surrender and obedience to God. No doubt this has led me to hear clearly my call to seminary and has allowed me to become a stronger intercessor of prayer for others, mainly the church. None of this would have been possible without the help and presence of The Holy Spirit in my life. His presence seems to become stronger everyday, and I can’t imagine how anyone can live a genuine life of following Christ unless they are filled by the Holy spirit.
This week I have been watching the series “Ghost” over at http://lifechurch.tv Senior Pastor Craig Groeschel has been helping to explain who The Holy Spirit is, what He gives us, and why we need Him in our life. The Holy Spirit is a gift from God. He came upon very ordinary people, and gave them power to do extraordinary things. We today have that same super-natural power and life available to us, even in our very human bodies. The Holy Spirit will prompt us to move out of our comfort zones and we need to be tuned in to him so that we can follow his promptings. Many times in my own life, I have felt these promptings to pray for someone specific or to send out an email of encouragement that I will often feel led to share. Craig points out 4 Distinctive qualities that the Holy Spirit wants to give all believers: 1. The Holy Spirit gives us power to share Christ boldly. 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 4My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power. . 2. The Holy Spirit gives you power when you are weak. Romans 8:26 26In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. Ask yourself where are you weak? What areas of sin or hardship do you need to overcome in your own life. It can something as simple as struggling to understand something, guidance and wisdom as a parent, or needing clarity for a decision that you need to make. The Holy Spirit wants to come and dwell inside you deeply and give you super natural power to get through many of life’s struggles. 3. The Holy Spirit wants to give you hope in a hopeless world. Romans 15:13 13May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. 4. The Holy Spirit wants you to experience the fullness of God. Sadly today, so many people have reduced Christianity to mere salvation, and it really doesn’t look much different from the rest of the world. There is no real faith, no real victory BECAUSE they don’t have real Power of The Holy Spirit. Paul prayed for the churches in Ephesus, and I too have found myself praying for so many of my fellow Christians. Here is what He has prayed in Ephesians 3:16-19 16I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. This fullness is what God wants for all Christians! I am a living testimony of His power, and it is my prayer for every Christian. May you call upon God’s Holy Spirit today in faith that He is real, that he can break strongholds, and wants to set you free, and give you a life that is Sprit-led. This is my prayer for all who will read this, every member of my church, my fellow seminarian students, my family and my friends. May God’s consuming fire come and do a mighty work in all of our lives, that we would be forever changed and live genuine Spirit-led lives. Amen!!
