Take up your cross and follow me

Matt 16:24 (NLT) Then Jesus said to his disciples “if any of you wants to follow me, you must turn from your selfish ways and take up your cross and follow me”.   Lately, I have been finding ths command of Jesus to be very gratifying and the only truly freeing option that this life has to offer.  Becoming more like Christ has truly been a desire of my heart and one that brings me great joy, security and peace.  There is no greaster thing than knowing Jesus as our Lord and Savior, our best friend, and the lover of our soul.  He has chosen us and set us apart for his purposes; we are not just saved to get a free ride into heaven, but we have been chosen to do his kingdom work here on this earth that we live in.  We must rid ourselves of  the things of this world and take up our cross, our struggles; knowing that God is stronger than what our human eyes can see.   We are to live humble lives before our king, not drawing attention to ourselves, but to live to bring Him glory in what we do and how we live.  God commands us to “come out from unbelievers and separate yourselves, from them says the Lord, don’t touch their filthy things,  and I will welcome you”. 2 Cor. 6:17  Our heart must desire Him alone, we must willingly go to His Word, thirsty for knowledge and wisdom, thirsty to know Him More!   We must spend time in prayer and fasting, knowing that these are biblical practices and that  our God has our back at all times.  We don’t have time to be wishy-washy in our Christianity and certainly our God deserves more from us who He died for.  Love is a verb, and it is also an act, and not a feeling.  Just because we don’t feel like praying, worshiping, or reading The Word, should be more of a reason to dive into these practices and gain strength in God and especially against satan.  So let me encourage you today to set yourself apart, to desire to be all that you can be for God, that you would desire Him alone before anything else this world has to offer.  Live humbly for Him and let Him guide your ways.  Be Blessed.

  1. I find when I continue to pray or praise Him even when I don’t feel like it, He often makes me feel like it! It becomes my joy and pleasure again. Its like He honors the intent of my heart, to please Him despite how I feel, and then restores the feelings. Bless you! jenny
