Starting With The Right Attitude

I know for most, Monday’s are hard, but for me being unemployed it has taken on a whole new meaning and outlook.  I have my own issues of getting motivated and getting things done, but I also have been extremely blessed to begin to see this time off as a true blessing.  I have had the wonderful privilege of spending lingering time and study in The Word, and I am allowing God to help me become a better mom to my daughter.    I was so saddened this past week, when I read some blogs and they had such a depressing tone.  They where full of anxiety and fear, loss of hope and worry about tomorrow.  I understand it’s good and healthy to wrestle with our issues with God, but we ultimately need to step out in faith, rebuke the devil and his lies, and take the hand of Jesus and allow him to lead us through our days.  As I have been growing, one of the things that I am learning about myself is that I am blessed to be a blessing; and many times that takes shape out of my encouragement to others; whether on this blog, at church, or in my personal life.  As much as I am trying to become a better listener, I also feel lead many times, to just speak The Truth of God to others.  To tell them to take seriously what the Bible says.  I think so  many times, we get in Bible reading ruts; I mean, as much as I am thirsting and learning, I too, struggle with things like say, much of the Old Testament.  For me, I get caught up in the genealogies and some of the language, but I am slowly learning to just let God teach me stuff.  I think we run out of patience too fast; we want to go from A to Z in our journey, forgetting that we have all the other stuff to go through to get there.   So I think this week I am just going to try to be encouraging as much as I can.  There is a great book that I am reading called “Walking in your own shoes” by Robert A.  Schuller.  It has been instrumental in helping me see my life as a journey and to take things one day at a time.  I think I will be sharing some of my favorite parts from it this week for you all.   I just felt it in my heart to be an encouragement.  It’s a new year with tons of new possibilities, and I really feel that God is going to be blessing some of us in major ways.  I don’t know what it is,  and I don’t know how, but I just sense God wants to do more in those of us who are really feeling sold out for Him, (for lack of a better word).  So let me just encourage you to desire more of God, his power, his Spirit, and his virtues.   I know we all have our bad days,  but what I have been trying to get in the habit of doing is that when I feel a negative thought or feeling com on, to go to a scripture that reminds me of His truths and promises.  “This is the day the Lord has made, Let us rejoice and be glad in it”. Psalm 118;24.  My prayer is that we may all have this attitude everyday as we surrender it over to the Lord.  May you be blessed and encouraged.  Robin

  1. I agree with so much of what you are saying! I don’t even know where to start! I love that you put your bible verse as your status on Facebook. What a great idea! You know, I wonder if God is taking advantage of the time available by your being unemployed to deepen your relationship with Him and your daughter? Maybe you needed this time with Him, even though from a worldly point of view it seems like a bad thing?

I agree with you about being blessed to be a blessing. This reminds me of a verse: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” 2 Cor. 1:3-4

I agree too that we should just let God lead us through the Bible, teaching us as He pleases, and then it becomes so much easier for His Word to come alive to us, learning directly from the Holy Spirit.

Yes! God wants to do more in us! Aren’t you just so excited to think of what He has planned? “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.” Isa. 43:18-19 We have to believe that the harder and more hopeless things seem means the more amazing things God is going to do. Then He can really show His power, and He can show the world what He can do through us who choose to trust and believe despite how crazy things seem in the world!

    Bless you Robin! Jenny

  2. “we ultimately need to step out in faith, rebuke the devil and his lies, and take the hand of Jesus and allow him to lead us through our days”

AMEN! Though we may grieve it is not without hope. We know the end of the story. He is victorious over it all. I choose His plan!

  3. Hello Robin,

May we keep our eyes on Jesus and our ears open to His words of Truth no matter the circumstances.. This is a great reminder and one we need to be reminded of almost daily! Thank you Lord for your Grace and Mercy.. Amen Robin and thanks for the reminder!

  4. Hi Robin, how are you? I’ve been busy and haven’t been visiting blogs like I usually try to do. Anyway, I beleive also with you, that God has given you time – a gift to learn from and draw closer to Him. I loved when you wrote that you are blessed so you can be a blessing to others…Amen to that! Blessings, my friend!
